Dodge Hornet R/T Powertrain

The Dodge Hornet R/T offers the most powerful Hornet powertrain. The Hornet R/T uses a turbocharged plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system. Under the hood is a 1.3-liter turbocharged all-aluminum engine. Meanwhile, an electric induction motor is mounted to the rear axle. This electric motor provides 184 lb-ft of torque instantly from 0 miles per hour. This system gives the Hornet 285-plus horsepower and a total of 383 lb-ft of torque. While the gas engine powers the front wheels, the electric motor on the rear axle drives the rear wheels, giving drivers all-wheel drive confidence. This setup is mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The Hornet R/T includes the new PowerShot feature. Activated by pulling both steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and pressing the gas pedal, PowerShot gives you a 15-second burst of an additional 25 horsepower. It shaves a full second off of the 0-60 time and can be repeated after a 15-second cooldown period. Drivers can choose from Electric, Hybrid, and E-Save modes. The E-Save mode uses only gas power, and drivers can choose the Passive option, which maintains the battery's charge, or Active, which recharges the battery through regenerative braking.

Dodge Hornet GT Powertrain

The Hornet GT uses Dodge's Hurricane4 engine and offers more than 265 horsepower, making it the most powerful CUV in its price range. Hurricane4 is a 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine that pairs with a twin-scroll turbocharger for forced air induction, direct fuel injection, and fuel-saving engine start-stop (ESS) technology. This is the perfect balance of performance and fuel efficiency, offering 265-plus horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharger uses an electric actuated waste gate to improve responsiveness and performance. Meanwhile, the water-to-air intercooler lowers the temperature of the throttle body, intake air, and turbocharging unit, improving durability and lowering emissions. The GT offers a Sport Mode button within easy reach of the driver on the steering wheel. Sport Mode unlocks better performance by giving drivers access to full power and torque, a tighter steering wheel feel, an optimized shift schedule, and a sharper throttle, getting the Hornet GT from 0-60 in just 6.5 seconds. The Hurricane4 engine mates to a nine-speed automatic transmission that powers an all-wheel drive system.
