Find a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in Celina, OH

The 2021 Grand Cherokee L has joined the Jeep lineup as the first three-row SUV Jeep has produced in its 80 years of production. Although the Grand Cherokee L makes a fantastic family car with three rows of comfortable seating for space for six or seven passengers and tons of modern technology, it certainly doesn't miss out on any of the all-terrain fun that the rest of the lineup enjoys! The Grand Cherokee L's fantastic capability starts under the hood with a standard 290 horsepower 3.6L V6 engine, while a 5.7L V8 is available with 357 horsepower. With these engines, three available 4x4 drivetrains, available air suspension, traction management, and more, the Grand Cherokee L is ready for any terrain that you're ready for! Keep reading below to see how Jeep gave its first three-row SUV the legendary capability the brand is known for!

Three 4x4 Drivetrains

Jeep is oftentimes the first brand drivers think of while talking about off-road-ready vehicles, and the Grand Cherokee L has joined that conversation! The Grand Cherokee L is available with three of Jeep's most trusted 4x4 systems, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. Quadra-Trac I sets the tone with a single-speed transfer case that coordinates with sensors to pre-emptively make adjustments to the torque distribution to prevent slippage and continuously adjusts itself to make corrections as slippage is detected. Quadra-Trac II uses a robust two-speed active transfer case with low-range gear reductions. This system acts similarly to Quadra-Trac I but improves off-road handling and performance with Active 4-Low torque control with a 2.72:1 gear ratio. Lastly, Quadra-Drive II employs the same two-speed active transfer case but adds an electronic limited-slip rear differential. This system instantly senses a loss of traction and seamlessly reacts by redistributing torque to the wheels with the most traction. In some instances, the car will anticipate low traction and adjust itself before tire slip occurs. Quadra-Drive II is available when the Overland 4x4 trim is equipped with the Off-Road Group, while it is standard on the Summit models.

Selec-Terrain Traction Management

Selec-Terrain was first offered in 2011 by the Grand Cherokee. From there, its success was spread out to every Jeep 4x4 model. All Grand Cherokee L models equipped with a 4x4 system come standard with Selec-Terrain. A scrolling switch manages Selec-Terrain with Auto, Snow, Rock, Sport, and Sand/Mud modes. The goal of Selec-Terrain is to allow drivers to adjust the traction control systems to adapt to the current driving conditions. It does this by electronically coordinating up to six different powertrains, braking and handling, 4x4 torque split, steering, and suspension systems. These systems include transmission shift points, stability control, traction control, the transfer case, throttle control, steering feel, and the anti-lock braking system (ABS).

Quadra-Lift Air Suspension

When the Grand Cherokee L is equipped with the available Quadra-Lift air suspension system, drivers can choose a ride height that best suits the driving conditions with NRH, Aero, Park, Off-Road 1, and Off-Road 2 modes. Normal Ride Height (NRH) is 8.3 inches, while Aero mode lowers the ground clearance to 7.3 inches. Park mode lowers the car to 6.4 inches. Off-Road 1 mode raises to 9.9 inches for light off-roading. For intense off-roading, Off-Road 2 towers over the ground with 10.9 inches of clearance. The Quadra-Lift modes coordinate with the Selec-Terrain system to provide the correct ground clearance for the driving conditions based on what mode Selec-Terrain is in. While ride height is a large benefit of air suspension, electronic adaptive damping provides a smooth ride across all different road conditions. This feature adjusts the stiffness of the air springs to keep the cabin level as it drives over bumps and potholes.
