Models of the Grand Cherokee 4xe
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe comes in a few different models, all of which offer outstanding efficiency. It is available in the Grand Cherokee Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve models. All of these come with the 4xe propulsion system that combines two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, 2.0-liter turbocharged, four-cylinder engine. This powertrain is paired with Jeep's TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission for maximum efficiency and capability.
4xe Power
The 4xe population system delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. The Grand Cherokee 4xe provides 25 miles of all-electric range, 57 MPGe, and a total range of more than 440 miles. An LED battery level monitor sits on top of the instrument panel, making it easy to check the battery state of charge at-a-glance during charging.
High-Tech Gas Power
Jeep's fuel-efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine is a high-tech, direct-injection engine that uses a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger mounted directly to the cylinder head. Efficiency is upgraded thanks to the electric power steering and an electrically driven air conditioning compressor, cutting out those loads from the engine. Jeep also replaced the conventional alternator with a high-voltage, liquid-cooled motor-generator unit. Connected to the engine crankshaft pulley via a belt, the motor-generator spins the engine for nearly seamless, fuel-saving, start-stop operation and generates electricity for the battery pack.
How Many Clutches are on the Grand Cherokee 4xe
Two clutches manage power and torque from the e-motor and engine. One clutch is mounted between the engine and the motor. This clutch is open when the system operates in electric-only mode, so there is no mechanical linkage between the engine and the e-motor. When the clutch is closed, it combines torque from the gas engine and the electric motor. The second clutch is a variable clutch mounted behind the e-motor that manages engagement with the transmission to improve drivability and efficiency.
