Covered Bridge Scenic Byway
The Covered Bridge Scenic Byway passes through some of Ohio's most beautiful countryside views. Following State Route 26 from Marietta to Woodsfield, it is positioned parallel to the Little Muskingum River for most of its length. Looking to make it a weekend trip? There are four campgrounds along the byway. The byway is a self-guided tour boasting lots of beautiful scenery and history that the area has to offer. To assist in your guidance, keep an eye out for tour markers that will lead you to each one of the ten stops. At the stops, you'll find panels that explain the significance of that location. Some points of interest along the way include the Ohio River Museum, the Campus Martius Museum, and the Wayne National Forest.
Gateway to Amish Country
The Gateway to Amish Country is the place to be if you're looking for peace and quiet. Along this route, you'll find many hiking trails, including the Mohican Valley Trail, which is popular for walkers, horseback riders, and cyclists alike. The can't-miss destination along the Gateway, however, is the Bridge of Dreams. This covered bridge in Brinkhaven was originally built in the 1920s as a railroad bridge and covered in 1998. The Bridge of Dreams is the second-longest covered bridge in Ohio and the third-longest bridge in the United States, stretching 370 feet over the Mohican River.
Lake Erie Coastal Byway
It's possible to love urban and country settings at the same time. If that sounds like you, then the Lake Erie Coastal Byway is for you! As you might assume, the Byway follows the shores of Lake Erie, offering some stunning scenery with the red, orange, and yellow leaves reflecting off the sparkling waters. The Byway leads you into Cleveland, where you can check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and tons of local eats and entertainment.
